What is Islam?
Islam means submitting to Allaah, worshipping Him alone and obeying Him, and shunning shirk (polytheism, associating others with Allaah) and those who believe in that. This is the religion which Allah approves for His slaves. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam” [Aal- ‘Imraan 3:19]
Who are Muslims?
The person who enters this religion is called a Muslim (one who submits), because he has submitted (aslama) to all the rulings that have come from Allah and from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And who turns away from the religion of Ibraaheem (Abraham) (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) except him who befools himself? Truly, We chose him in this world and verily, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous.
When his Lord said to him, ‘Submit (i.e. be a Muslim)!’ He said, ‘I have submitted myself (as a Muslim) to the Lord of the ‘Aalameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists).’” [al-Baqarah 2:130-131]
Who is Allah?
Allah is the Arabic word for “one God”, the same as Eloh in Aramaic. Allah is not the God of Muslims only. He is God of all creations, because He is their Creator and Sustainer.
Who was Muhammad (peace be upon him)?
Muhammad was the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him and all other prophets and messengers of Allah), the last and final one in a long series of prophets and messengers before him including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and many more (peace be upon them all). The leader of all the prophets and of humanity. The person with the greatest and best character there ever was and ever will be.
What is the purpose of life?
Allah the Exalted says (translation of the meaning): And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me. Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm Possessor of strength (Adh-Dhariyat 51:56-58)
How can I become a Muslim?
To become a Muslim, you should take shahadah by saying “Ash-hadu alla ilaha illa-Allah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasul-Allah.”
The English translation of the shahadah is:
“I bear witness that there is no deity (none worthy of worship) but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
What is the Quran?
The Quran is the word of Allah, may He be Exalted . What is meant by that is that Allah, may He be exalted, spoke the words of the Quran, which Jibril (peace be upon him) heard from Him, and brought down to the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and conveyed it to him.
What are the hadeeths?
Hadeeth means the words, actions, approvals or attributes that have been narrated from the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
